Sonja

Sonja is a very special female. An injury probably led to the distinctive and striking shape of her dorsal fin. We have been watching her for three years now and she has become more trusting in that time.

You can even see her close to the boat. She changes families and seems to be comfortable in the Strait of Gibraltar now.

This is how we have experienced Sonja since the beginning of our adoption program:

2021

Sonja was added to our adoption programme this year. We have known her since 2019 and she is easily recognisable thanks to her striking notches on her dorsal fin. We saw her on the first trip up on the 18th of June and 37 more times after that.

2022

We were able to observe Sonja throughout the season. We saw her the least in April (1x) and the most in August (11x). She is often seen together with Dani.

2023

We saw Sonja throughout the whole season. She was spotted on one of the first trips and also on one of the last. We saw her 33 times in total.

2024

We also saw Sonja over 30 times this year. She usually swims in groups of 5-9 animals. We saw her most often in May, September and October.
