Pedro

We know Pedro since September 1st, 2012. Pedro is a full grown male, but not very tall. He is relatively easy to recognize by his 2 notches on his dorsal fin.

He seems to be a friendly Pilot Whale, because he is always accompanied. Pedro is well guarded in the family of Edu and often accompanies Baby Hook when she curiously passes under our boat.

This is how we have experienced Pedro since the beginning of our adoption program:

2015

From this year on Pedro can be adopted. He lives well protected in the family of Edu, and we often see him together with Baby Hook.

2017

Pedro often accompanies the family of Baby Hook. He is trustful and likes to swim under the boat.

2018

We sighted Pedro 35 times, always simultaneously with Baby Hook. He seems to be a friendly Pilot Whale, because he is always accompanied. Pedro is well protected in the family of Edu and often accompanies Baby Hook when she curiously passes under our boat.

2019

Baby Hook, Edu and Pedro formed an inseparable family again this year, now joined by Triangula and her newborn baby.

2020

We were able to observe Pedro 12 times. He was almost always swimming with his usual companions. Only once was Edu missing and once Baby Hook was not there. Triángula joined the trio 8 times.

2021

This year we only saw Pedro five weeks after the start of the season, but then regularly until the end of October. With only a few exceptions, he was always with his usual companions.

2022

This year we only saw Pedro regularly from June onwards, before that only once in April and once in May. There were 34 sightings in total. As usual, he was mainly swimming with Baby Hook, Triangula and Edu, only from the 21st of June to the 4th of August he swam mainly with Sierra. After that, he was joined by his usual companions until the end of the season.

2023

We only saw Pedro three times this year, twice in July and once in October, when he was part of a pilot whale gathering of around 130 animals.

2024

Unfortunately, we haven't seen Pedro this year. We hope that he is currently in another area.
