The season 2020 has ended

The summer holidays are over and Tarifa's streets have been empty since the beginning of September. We have therefore also closed down for this year.

Despite the short season we had many special sightings. We hope that the situation will become normal by the next season and can't wait to take you out to see the whales again from the 26th of March 2021 on.

See you soon in Tarifa, Katharina Heyer and the firmm team

Lucia

Lucia has an injury behind her dorsal fin, probably from a fishing line. She's been coming into the Strait of Gibraltar for a while, but she's really been noticed since 2016, when she got this injury.

In the beginning she often took care of Baby Wilson and since winter/spring 2017 she has become a mother herself. She protects her little one, which we call Baby Estrella, constantly and swims mostly between the boat and the little one.

Adop Lucia

We are committed to a responsible treatment of the sea. And you can help us! With a symbolic sponsorship you support our research and educational work in Spain. Together we can achieve a lot!

This is how we have experienced Lucia since the beginning of our adoption program:

2017

Lucia has an injury behind her dorsal fin, probably from a fishing line. She's been coming into the Strait of Gibraltar for a while, but she's really been noticed since 2016, when she got this injury.
In the spring of 2017 she became the mother of little Estrella. She protects her baby all the time and usually swims between the boat and the baby.

2018

During the whole summer we didn't see Lucia with Estrella and were a bit worried. So our joy was all the greater when we discovered Lucia on October 17th accompanied by Estrella. The two seem to be well and Estrella hardly left her mother's side.
