Many exciting sightings

15. April 2007

On the first 2 boat trips on April 14, (10-12, 12-14 h) we were surprised by a group of approximately 120 Bottlenose dolphins, which were spread in a big area and which surrounded the boat. One of the dolphins came near the boat and splashed water at our guests with forceful whams of its tail fin and enormous endurance.

Suddenly a Sperm whale appeared in front of the group. But we had no possibility to approach the whale, because meanwhile the Bottlenose dolphins were spread around the boat and we could not change the course easily. On the second boat trip we met another group of Bottlenose dolphins and there we found one of our old friends: Lolly, the female dolphin with white patches, which probably come from a mycosis.
The patches became bigger during winter time and together with a veterinarian we try to find out this year what the true reason is for this eczema.

From the distance we could observe this Sperm whale. With their presence around the boat, the Bottlenose dolphins prevented our approaching it.
